Ozzie Has His Day

Ozzie has gotten the short end of the stick, so to speak, having to stay inside while we travel around the countryside, so today it was his turn. He loves the swimming pool and will retrieve sticks from it for as long as anybody is willing to throw them in. His record is three sticks at once. The only problem is, he's a Labrador and still has a Labradorian undercoat which soaks up a lot of water, and a waterproof top coat which keeps the water in and takes forever to dry. So far he hasn't gotten the memo that he needs to dry off before he comes inside and lies on the couch. The fact that it is 97 degrees outside doesn't matter to him, of course, because he is in the pool, but for the stick thrower, or the photographer, it is less desirable.  I Might just have to break down and put on my bathing suit ….not too desirable either.

Another reason for staying inside today is the fact that Fallbrook is just over the hill from Camp Pendleton Marine base where they have been practicing with bone rattling artillery fusillades all day. At least they aren't flying the Blackhawk helicopters overhead today. I'm sure some people sit back and say, "it makes me feel so much safer to hear the china rattling in the cupboard", but I can't help thinking of the poor people in so many war torn parts of the world who live with this on a daily basis…for real. Will we never learn?
