If you can't beat them...

THird cut silage.

This year the grass (certainly on my lawn) has grown very slowly.  This is good for those of us who have to mow the lawn but not so good for farmers.  Silage is the main winter feed in stock raising areas like ours.  The farmer has to do some guestimating to ensure he has enough to last all winter, while not knowing how long winter will be.

Generally most farmers round here get enough with two cuts earlier in the year, however there is still a lot being made.  For those who aren't sure what silage is it is basically pickled grass.  Tacid produced by bacteria rises to a level which kills off the bacteria and thus preserves the grass.  Various additives can and are used to improve the process.
