Penarth Predtors Away - Happy Hunting Ground

The petanque season is drawing to a close now, it won't be long before these outdoor blips will be switched to indoor bowls one ...

Much like the bowls season, the team I play for is looking up all those above us. If we could have turned one of those draws into a win we would be three places higher in the league. Just one of those seasons I guess.

We played at one of my favourite venues tonight, down in Dinas Powys Rugby Club. It is where we made our come back game last year. 

The omens at the start of game one weren't good. We slipped to 7-2 down, and hadn't had a single end where we ended with boules in hand. We then had a lucky break where their shooter knocked us in for a second and it was 7-4 and you kinda got your fingertips back in the game. We started to find the run of the piste and finally got boules in hand and took advantage and got a couple more. We dropped a couple but fought back to 10-9. Holding one with four boules in hand it was time to try and kill the match, but with my last but one shot I gave the shot away. 10-10. We were holding two the next end, but run out of boules and they had two in hand. Their first boule they knocked a front boule. It wasn't our head to look at so we left them to it. It was only when their last boule didn't change anything we became aware that the boule knocked in was ours and we had game.

Our second match we were on fire, the best we have played this season. Very quickly we were 8-0 up .. I was quite keen to try and get a 13-0 to try and cancel out the fanny we got earlier in the season. I should have perhaps held that thought as we dropped a 5! All our hard work wiped out in one end. But we picked up a good 3 the next end. a dropped 2 made it 11-7 .. but we were still putting the opposition under all sorts of pressure, and closed out a comfortable 13-7.

Unfortunately Mark and Carl lost both of theirs, frustratingly dropping a 4 on 9-9. The couple we came back from the death to beat in game one obviously got fired up and finished them off quite quickly 13-2.

So another draw!

We are not playing next week for the home game. We still strive for that important win that will stop us from finishing bottom!
