Cooling Off

Dear Diary,

After our picture perfect weather this past week, Maine is returning to the August "swelters"...not my favorite.  This cow and her calf found a good way to beat the heat with a little cooling off time in the pond.  It is spring fed so the water is clean and cool.  We watched each other contentedly for a while and I'm sure the cows were more comfortable than I.  Birds occasionally dove into the pond to refresh themselves and it was a very nice late summer moment.

We had a cracking thunder storm later...another typical late summer moment.  You could see the huge thunderheads building in the west and the sky darken ominously.  But these storms do no last...they are Nature's temper tantrums.  They downpour for a few minutes and afterwards the roads are steaming.  Today will be a good day to take my book to the porch.  A hot summer Sunday is Nature's way of telling us to slow down!

Deep summer is when laziness finds respectability. ~Sam Keen
