End of an era

Today was the final day for B Flt, 22 Sqn RAF at Wattisham Airfield. Such a sad day as we have got used to see the big yellow whirlybird out and about. But things change and time moves on and the rescue service is now moving into civilian hands.
We have visited SAR at their home base many times either for a cuppa or to display the Yak at their annual families days. Always loved to call in and to enjoy the banter of the crew.
3 years ago we were lucky enough to actually get a flight aboard the yellow beast as a thank you for all the displays we have done. This photo is taken from the cockpit from that flight with Bob & John at the helm. Great fun flying around the local area but in a totally different aircraft and sitting with feet dangling out of the open door. The flight ended with an auto-rotation onto the field to land, and then a go on the winch - eek!!
A special time with the guys of B flight 22 sqn ... thank you ... and goodnight ...
