Look up! You don't know what you are missing....

I notice most people these days are either staring at the floor, texting on their iPhone, or looking straight ahead.  Just see what they are missing! Manchester still has some amazing buildings from the 1800's and early 1900's and whilst the ground floor level has usually been converted to modern shops, restaurants etc.  the higher floors have mostly been left just as they always were.  Here are examples of two fine buildings on Deansgate in Manchester.  The Onward Building was built by  by architect Charles Heathcote, this building was occupied by a federation of temperance societies. This particular temperance movement was started in Leeds in 1847 and aimed to save working class children from the perils of alcohol.   Just a bit further up and on the opposite side is Oddfellows House which is located in what used to be a court of law - hence the crest and crown above the door.  Its wonderful what you see when you just look up! (But please don't do it when trying to cross the road..)
