'Steelhenge'

Sculptor Gerald Laing was commissioned by Strathclyde University to produce a public steel sculpture as part of a landscaping project on the campus in 1974. Situated at the highest natural point, Callanish is based on the standing stones at Callanish in the Western Isles. Sixteen free-standing steel abstract pillars on concrete bases are spread over half an acre. The sculpture is often referred to as "Steelhenge". This confuses it with Stonehenge which was not the intention! The extra shot shows the four from the back. You can read more about the sculptor at West Coaster's blip in June 2013.
