Skomer Island

Len kept Basil behind while I took a day trip to Skomer Island, a national nature reserve noted for its bird life. Puffins had all left. The Manx Shearwater hide out at sea all day to avoid the black backed gulls that prey on them.

Plenty of Manx Shearwater carcases on the island where gulls had presumably waited for them to exit their burrows.

I saw no seals, nor fulmars, nor kittiwakes, nor guillemots, nor porpoises but it was a glorious day. I ate some sandwiches here at Pigstone Bay on the west of the island.
