My Long Term Memory

Pitkä-Kotka island

Gorgeous summer day today. Best way to use it is make few hour boating trip to Hamina's archipelago. Sun was shining from cloudless sky.
It is really beautiful out there. The photo is from island called  Pitkä- Kotka (translate: Long- Eagle) In there is clear to see the effects of the last Ice age in round forms of red granite bedrock. Today the water level was extremely low and bedrock were more visible than ever.

The archipelago off Hamina and the Eastern Gulf of Finland National Park contain beautiful natural harbours, where boaters can moor their boat. There are several natural harbours in the island group of Majasaari-Nuokot. On Pitkä-Kotka, you can still see traces of quarrying, because the island was the source of stone building material for the construction of St Isaac’s Cathedral in St Petersburg in the 19th century.
