The Bread Of My Ancestors?

We were in the Russian store yesterday, and, while over in the bread section, I noticed these loaves of dark rye - amongst all the other different kinds of Eastern European dark ryes.  Since my father's family came to South Africa from Courland, (the province of Latvia situated on the peninsula to the west of Riga), I felt an obligation to see if there was something in this bread to which I could claim kin.  I expected it to be more like the rye loaves I remember from South Africa: quite moist and stuffed with caraway seeds.  This loaf turned out to be much drier and devoid of seeds, but tasty and great with cheese anyway and I find the label quite evocative.
