Balancing Act

The tower cranes are back in some force in Manchester and Salford.

The principle is quite simple. At one end a counter-weight in the form of some large concrete blocks. At the other a long arm which can carry the load. And between, a pivot on the tower itself. All designed so the whole thing doesn't topple over.

This crane is on the edge of Media City, where meccano-like a new premier inn plus offices for creative types is under construction. 

For some reason branded "tomorrow". I cannot work that one out either.
