Yorkshire's best tea shop

Possibly.

We had planned a leisurely couple of days and today's walk of 7.5 miles fitted in nicely. We meandered up Rosedale and at the half way point were greeted by a farm tea shop.

And it was open!

Unbelievably, they did a fine collection of gluten free sandwiches and cakes and I settled for a lemon drizzle cake which was completely scrumptious (made with mashed potato, but you'd have no idea!)

The views down the valley from the lawn were lovely and, with a recently installed wood burning stove, I reckon a winter's day would be pretty inviting too.

The second half of the walk took in part of an old railway that was built for ironstone mining and there were some wildly impressive ruins of kilns along the balcony walk too. That was definitely our favourite part.

We stopped for a cuppa in the van in the middle of the purple heather-clad moors before heading back to our campsite for a drink in the local pub and dinner in the van.

Little Dog is wasted and, with one Pimm's and lemonade, me too!

We weren't expecting much of a sunset tonight with the high cloud cover there's been for much of the day but the western horizon was clear and it was probably more dramatic than last night. There's little more relaxing than watching the sun go down from the van.
