Swansong

I have always been a little wary of swans, but these birds were friendly enough today.
I even saw one right up close to a family at a picnic table in this waterside park, happily being fed and to be photographed at close quarters.
In fact swans really only become aggressive when they believe their young are in danger of being attacked.
They are huge birds and so graceful. I remember seeing one come to a sad end while  I was walking across the famous Charles bridge in Prague.
The swan had taken off from the River Vitava and flying across the bridge flew straight into a power line on the bridge. It plummeted to the pavement with a thud, tucked its neck into its wing and sadly there was nothing anyone could do to save it.
There is no danger of these swans or the other water birds to be found at this lake running, or flying into that sort of danger. The greatest hazard they face would seem to be from inquisitive children, but they always appear to come back for more attention.
Or perhaps it is in hope of finding a titbit to feed on!
