Meet Me in St. Louis

After a day of flights from Seattle, Washington to St. Louis, Missouri, we are ensconced for the next couple of days in the Union Station Hotel in downtown St. Louis, and are delighted to be here!

This 120-year-old building was once the largest train station in the United States, with more than 200 trains passing through each day. Now it is an elegant but unpretentious hotel, retaining the beautiful architecture of the past while adding a very modern light show several times each evening, as seen here -- one brief moment of the light show, which takes place in a splendid hall with 65-foot ceilings.

There is a large bar there, and tables seating four to six diners/ drinkers, and the menu is eclectic and excellent. We had our first taste of St. Louis Butter Cake with bourbon caramel sauce, and I daresay it won't be our last!

Tomorrow we'll try a beer place that I think both of us will enjoy, check out the sculptures in the park across the street, and meet my first cousin once removed (the son of one of my first cousins) and his wife for dinner, here at the hotel. We're having a great time!
