Day 7

I couldn't help but blip another image of the canola fields today.  We knew when we left Burra this morning that we would be in for a wonderful ride.  Nothing however could prepare us for what lay ahead.  For almost 100 kilometres we drove through some of the richest farming land in Australia.  It was dripping in green and gold.  I nearly jumped through the window when I looked to the left and saw this farmhouse literally swallowed up in a sea of gold.  I have to say it was a tough decision between the farmhouse and the solitary tree that I've posted as an extra.

I've also posted an extra of CCN sitting at the picnic table that featured in the first blip I ever posted - way back on the 10th of January 2013.  No muffins or cuppa today, but we had to call in and take this pic for old times sake.  The rest area is about 500 metres from the turn off that is signposted "Western Australia".  Wow, you wouldn't want to miss that one!!

We had a very funny episode in a lovely little country cafe in a town called Gladstone which is one of the towns along the Horrocks Highway that takes you through a back route to Port Augusta.  It went something like this.  We had ordered our green tea and a cappuccino when we noticed a delicious looking home made cake in the cabinet.

Wombat to Geoff the cafe owner - "Could you tell me, is that an orange cake in the cabinet"?
Geoff.....Yes it's an orange cake - It's an orange cake isn't it", he calls to a lady in the kitchen
Linda.....from the kitchen....."No it's a lemon cake"
Geoff....."Well it was an orange cake yesterday"!!!!!!!
I have to tell you we did share a piece of the Orange tasting lemon cake and it was delicious.
As we were leaving we called to Linda - "The orange cake was delicious by the way"
Linda - "No it was a lemon cake but the lemons I used just looked like oranges but they tasted like lemons".

We can't wait to revisit the "Rock Cafe" on the way home to try the "Apple Pie" or was that a Rhubarb pie!!

Tonight we are staying in a great little cosy caravan park in Cowell which is half way down the east coast of the Eyre Peninsular between Port Augusta and Port Lincoln.  This is new ground for us and we can't wait to see what's around the next corner tomorrow.

Day 7.....Burra to Cowell (via Port Augusta).....430km
Total Travelled.....1708
