TGV

Today's the day .......................... to travel first class

We had an idea that we might be in for a few problems when our train from Voiron was ten minutes late leaving.

It meant that we missed our connection in Lyon that would take us by a fast TGV train to Lille, where we would board the Eurostar for St Pancras.  However the SNCF staff were very helpful in Lyon and booked us seats on another train leaving later.  And what's more, because we had been inconvenienced, we found ourselves travelling first class - not something we would normally experience!

It was wonderful too.  The TGV trains are spacious at the best of times - but this was like travelling at high speed in your own padded armchair.  There was masses of leg-room - and that was before you tipped your chair into sleep mode at the press of a button.  The décor was plush - and so chic.  You knew you were in France.

We eventually arrived home an hour later than planned - and we had to have all our tickets changed.  Some changes were easier than others!  However, as I'm writing this a day later with the benefit of hindsight, it seems that we were probably the last train to make it through the Channel Tunnel before it was closed because of problems with illegal immigrants.

So now it's back to 'old clothes and porridge'  as they say.  Well until our next adventure .............................
