The Laughing Lieutenant

This year was the 200th Anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo, a pivotal moment in European (and World) History when Napoleon was finally defeated.

There were 6 people, including 3 brothers, from the village who fought in the battle, and they are being celebrated with a memorial stone being unveiled, and book about their story being written.

To round everything off we had a battle reenactment in the park across from my house. We had people from the 95th Rifles and Royal Horse Artillery Battle Re-enactment and Living History Society, and a cannon!

The riflemen gave a demonstration of drilling, and firing and then rapid firing, before the infantry came onto the field with their cannon, which was great fun, if it was a little loud. The rapid firing demonstration was very impressive with at least four rounds being got off within a minute. (See extra)

Here is a picture of the Lieutenant of the Infantry who was a very jolly chap, and he was getting ready to round up his troops in the camp ready for the drills.
