Arctic Fox

We now sailed back south to visit the south eastern side of Svalbard. We were prevented from doing a complete circuit of the Archipelago due to complete sea ice cover. Our ship could only cope with nine tenths ice cover.

Our first stop was in the Bellsund fjord. We anchored, and went on shore at Camp Millar. Looking at the extra photos, it is a beach area with high rocks and scree slopes. Here we encountered a colony of Little Auks. And this Artic Fox just sauntered by quite close, not really concerned with all these people around in bright red jackets!

We then moved on during lunch to Bamsebu. We landed and were met with the sight of piles and piles of Beluga Whales bones bleaching in the midnight sun. It's hard for us today to understand why it was necessary to kill these beautiful creatures.
