Busy bees

Great to see plenty of bees still finding nectar in the garden flowers. Crocosmia (montbretia) is a late flowering plant and glows like trapped sunshine - not surprising as it originated in South Africa. Heather grows wonderfully well in Scotland's acidic soil and the little bell flowers help the bees to produce the inimitable Scottish Heather honey. You can order heather honey online and one of the best producer is Heather Hills Farm where, at this time of year, the hills turn purple. They started off with just one hive in 1945, and now have 1300 hives across Perthshire and Deeside - the most beautiful and unpolluted parts of the UK.
