Wild Elephants in Wilpattu National Park

For a country that's full of Elephants in its national parks, Wilpattu is an exception where Elephant sightings are scarce. This "loner" was seen next to a lake (Villu) feeding on grass mixed with water.

However the road from Puttalam to Anuradhapura is a place where elephants cross the main road & the drivers have to drive slowly as to not get hit by an elephant. Also during night time, the elephants may be standing on the road (which I experienced myself). It's quite an adventure itself, to cruise along an awesome lonely road to find a huge, mammoth elephant standing right in the middle of the road munching on food!!
