Just before 1100 on Thursday - we stepped off the train in Milngavie
Just after 1100 on Monday, we're on the platform in Fort William.

In the intervening 96 hours, we walked the 96 miles of the West Highland Way. A bit of time to relax together....

Day 4.

After finally getting a bed I could stick my feet out of the end of, we were up and out and not entirely unhappy to find 'Basil & Cybil' were not there as promised.

So before 8, we struck out on the 3 legged day. Cool, but the promise of brightness to follow. The clouds were sticking to the summits of Ben Dorain, Achaladair, A Dotaidh and the Black Mount, but no matter. An hour later we were over the first lump, views up Loch Tulla, and then across Victoria Bridge, slight midge attack and onto the cobbled road up onto Rannoch Moor. Phase 1 completed.

We'd walked this last year as a taster under very similar conditons; but this time we carried on, past the Ba Bridge as the sun came out and the cloud lifted; decent views into most of the Black Mount.
And as we climbed out (photo is the view looking back across the moor), we then descended into the head of Glencoe; the Buchaille looking magnificent, Creise as impregnable as ever.
Downhill, in the sun, a fresh breeze, we hit the Kingshouse ( end of  phase 2) around midday; avoid the Sunday lunchtime pint and cracked on towards the Devil's Staircase. 30 minutes later, that was done, we grabbed some soup and over the top to view the Alpine majesty of the Mamores.
Clear skies, hot sun, downhill, and after a slightly gravelly descent into Kinlochleven, we checked in by 3.30 and an afternoon to relax in the sun.

Shopping for dinner and breakfast the next day, we packed for an early start; then dinner, wine, swapped tales with other hikers and bed by 9.30.

A truly grand day out.

80 miles down, 16 left. Done in 7 and a half hours.
