Menorca - Day 7: Egyptian Vulture from Monte Toro

Back blip

Yay, I'd been hoping to see Egyptian vultures, and spotted this one quite unexpectedly from the top of Monte Toro, Menorca's highest point. They're beautiful birds, and I'd read that they could be found in Menorca (particularly where they nest in the Barranc d'Algendar near Cala Galdana), but had never previously seen them.
It was a hazy day (Fornells was clearly visible, but not well-defined), so the view from Monte Toro wasn't as spectacular as it sometimes is, but it was fun nonetheless. There is a monastery on the peak, and I enjoyed photographing their stained glass, and the various plants and wildlife in the main courtyard.

We stopped by Es Mercadel on route home: it is a sweet little town (people actually live there), featuring many of the island's best bakeries, but was particularly sleepy as we visited at the end of siesta.

Other pictures from this day can be found on Flickr (right from here).
