Better Late than Never

We were up bright and early this morning to count birds - we've signed up for the BTO Wetland Birds Survey, so we went to our allocated wetland - a nearby reservoir. It appeared we had brought the fine weather back home with us - the forecast was for it to be dull, but it was a beautiful day and the area was full of joggers, walkers, anglers and rowers. Birds? 72 Mallard, 19 Mandarin Ducks, 3 Moorhens and a Little Grebe. I didn't take my big lens as I wanted to concentrate on counting, and although I got a couple of shots of the Mandarin Ducks, once again there was an obliging butterfly - a Red Admiral in the garden when we got home. It has certainly not been a good Summer for butterflies, but it's nice to get a few latecomers putting in an appearance.
