U-Bahn München: 60/100 Moosach

Munich Underground: 60/100 Moosach

It's been really quite a while since my last blip of my Munich underground series in February. This is not actually my fault, though, but due to lengthy repair works in the (fucking new) station.

With an opening date in December 2010, Moosach underground station is one of the two newest stations in Munich's underground network, together with neighbouring Moosacher St.-Martins-Platz. Similar to Gern underground station (also rather new) it was designed without mainstays and features large skylight to let natural light into the otherwise subterranean structure. The walls are covered with panels, that show huge flowers and bugs. Since its opening in December 2010 it is the northern terminus of the orange U3 line and connects the underground network to the S1 suburban train line line at Munich-Moosach station. For most of the Schwabing and Maxvorstadt neighbourhoods in the north of Munich's city center the combination of U3 and S1 now is the fastest way to get to Munich Airport. The station was under repair for the better part of 2015, and the wall panels were partly removed (as seen here, here, here, and here) to be able to better examine the structure.

The way things are going the next station in my strictly alphabetical Munich underground series, Moosacher St.-Martins-Platz (also the most outrageous station to pronounce for a foreigner), will be a long time in coming as well, as it is still in repair and a construction site.
