Hot water rising through limestone deposits calcium carbonate in a tumble of rounded domes, frozen waterfalls and flat terraces. Streaked with yellows, browns and greens the colours are from heat loving organisms, thermophiles that thrive in the steam and bubbling waters.

A long and winding road awaits as the park is left behind. 68 miles of switchback and climbing through alpine scenery of the Custer, Shoshone and Gallatin National Forests , the Beartooth Highway crests at 10,947' at Beartooth Pass. (extra)
