pretty...

...as a picture and wedding destination for many, Carbon County's  St Olaf's Lutheran Church gleams against a blue sky in cattle country.

The Homestead Act of 1862 opened up the western expansion of the US granting 160 acres of free land to claimants. In early 1900s  Norwegian immigrants settled on Wolney and Red Lodge Creeks and building of the church was organised in 1904 and completed in 1921.
On our way through from the equally pretty town of Red Lodge to Bozeman, coffee and biscuits are on offer at M's cousin's ranch in eyeline of St Olaf's spire and we wander through the cemetery where Norwegian names are engraved on stones, Hyem, Indreland, Froland and Hoveland and speak of the land's Norwegian settler history.

The following day St Olaf's was to host a bluegrass service...now that would have been something!
