Iconic Tram

The easiest way to travel around the Old Town of Lisbon is in Tram 28 (the Tourist Tram).  We wandered round from our place a couple of streets away to the tram stop, and there was this wonderful smell coming out of a small bakery/cafe so stuck my nose is and saw the Pastel da Nata (tarts) and although already had breakfast got a couple for the wait from the tram.  Mmmmmm  they were still warm and the taste is amazing......

Jumped off at the edge of the Alfama and spotted a lovely little Cafe off a busy juction and sat and had a coffee and some yogurt and granola.  The Portuguese waiter was very friendly and we had a nice chat with him.  Set off down the narrow street of Alfama, the space between the houses on either side of the road was just over a car width.  I would imagine growing up here there would be no secrets, all the neighbours would know what each other was doing.

There were little shops too.  It was so interesting wandering around, and loads to see looking upwards too.  Zuza is the name of the Company we are staying with and they have their own app for using for everything in Lisbon you could possibly imagine.  One of the things it helps with if there is a good Cafe/restaurant nearby where you are and we had walked quite far and needed lunch so clicked on the Cafe icon and there was a recommended one a few metres away.  It certainly was very good food :-)

Lisbon is set on 7 hills so there are viewpoints in various places where you can see over the rooftops of the city.  It's very beautiful, especially with the sun shining.  It's perfect for wandering and our next wander took us to a beautiful square at the side of the River, I can't remember it's name but there was a big archway with a soldier on a horse with elephants round it in the middle and guys selling selfie sticks which I didn't buy!    More wandering and taking pictures and getting warm so time for another break and another Tart!  Yumm, I love them.  Just as well they don't sell them here, although I could possibly make myself sick of them!!

Time to get back to the house for refreshed before going out for dinner.  We spied a pickpocket/shoplifter as we walked up from Rossio Square.  She was carrying two bags and emptied a plastic back at a dump area to put one of them in.  Then later we saw her again with a massive plastic  bag looked as if she had shoplifted more.

Had a fab meal at a place called Buenos Aires, which again Zuma recommended.  I can't remember if this was Monday or Sunday night it was so long ago now.... and there has been so much walking and eating...
Edit: the last two paras were for last night!! Monday evening was the one when we went to a Fado Bar to listen to Fado Music which means hope. It's very much sung as if the singer has the weight of the world on their shoulders, sung with passion and much feeling. The bar was in the Barrio Alto area which has loads of these little pubs/restaurants. There were two singers a man who was average and the young girl who was fab! She was very pretty and had a great voice. It was a good night and the place was packed with people from the street peering in through the open window!
