Trip to Belem

A quick breakfast and ready to get going for the Tram 15 to Belem a suburb of Lisbon, around a 15 minute ride away. Pretty jam packed as its a popular destination what with its maritime history and lovely riverside location. It was pretty blowy there to say the least and the sun hadn't made an appearance but was prepared for that with trousers and jacket on......

There were a few big statues and also the castle whose names I forget but I know Vasco De Gama was one of the guys who was on the big statue among other Portuguese heroes at riverside because he has the 10 mile long bridge named after him that spans the Tagus! He dates back to the 1400s .
There was also dancing fountains and a big church. It was nice to walk along the riverside and we had a nice lunch outside. Tram back, not so busy, and got off near Alfama, by the river and gaped at the size of the massive cruise ships that were docked in the harbour! We wandered back through Alfama, Chiado and Bairro Alto back to our place on the Sao Bento near the Palicio de Assemblia. I think today was our most steps walked which was almost 21,000! No wondered shattered every night! We decided to eat at a nearby restaurant instead of walking to the Bairro Alto, and I had a nice piece of fish, another good meal. I'm loving the Portuguese food!
