Simply a snail

Thanks for all the generous comments on yesterday's offering. No time for considered landscapes today - we had a somewhat frustrating morning at Orton Pit, searching for ponds that didn't exist and finding that we'd surveyed at least one unnecessary pond, thanks to unclear instructions from the client. After lunch our computer man visited and sorted out a few minor niggles, and the rest of the afternoon passed in a whirl of data entry and cooking.

I eventually went out into the garden to seek a photographic subject, and was initially struck by the close colour match between this brown-lipped snail and the dying stem that it was sitting on. I love spirals and will often doodle them, but today I also felt the shape represented an underlying feeling of life spiralling ever faster and out of control, as we head towards the inexorable end of the field season.
