Health

Japan prides itself on offering quality health care at low cost. Interestingly, part of this is as a result of tight controls; hospitals in Japan can't be owned by for-profit corporations and clinics must be owned and operated by Doctors.

Japanese health care system takes care of 70% of medical costs, but as medical costs, treatments and medications are strictly controlled, the cost to the patient is currently really affordable. The patient pays the remaining amount automatically at machines like this. Conveniently located by the exit at hospitals and clinics. Everyone pays up too!

Like most countries however, there are a few challenges in maintaining the service, especially with a 'silver tsunami' looming - the term used to describe the very real problem of Japan's aging population!
