Flower Of The Sun

The sunflower is the State Flower for Kansas. They symbolize adoration, loyalty and longevity. First cultivated by the American Indian tribes of the present day Arizona and New Mexico about 3,000BC. Seed was pounded into flour for cakes, mush or bread, also purple dye was extracted for textiles and body painting. Also used as a medicine for snakebite, and oil for the skin and hair. The dried stalk was used as a building material. This is one of the flowers my friend with  the allotment brought round.
