1940's weekend on The Poppy Line!

At last the weekend we have all been waiting for!

I woke around 8, and with a busy day ahead, got up and started getting dressed for the day. Luckily, weighing in 2lb lighter than I did 2 weeks ago, (when my 40's dress came out of the loft and was proved to be a tad snug around the chest area!) I wriggled into my dress, applied the appropriate makeup, including very red lipstick, donned very thick (vintage) seamed stockings in a fetching tan colour, then woke Mollie.

Henry has been really looking forward to the day & was already up and dressed!. He loves the dressing up, but each year as he gets bigger it becomes more of a challenge to find an outfit. We managed to put something together that I think looked fairly appropriate for Mollie. She was reluctant to dress up the last time we came, but was happy to join in this time. We did our hair last - a real challenge for Mollie, she has so much of it! The style was her least favourite part of the outfit.

The posed picture, as we left the house, was to replicate a picture of us all (but minus Daniel) from 2007 when we took our first step back into the 1940s. We haven't looked back since! If I can find that old picture I will post it.

We arrived in Holt and were transported from the field where we parked, on an old red London bus!

The day was such fun. A great atmosphere at Holt station, and many people in costume, and what variety. There are always loads of stalls selling vintage clothes, and all sorts of other bits. The sort of things I buy just to put in my glass cabinet. I bought a small tin, a copy of 'The War Illustrated' dated 30th September 1939 and an empty cigarette packet!

After meeting James (from work) and his lovely lady Sarah, and having a mooch about the stalls together, they headed back home, while we got on the steam train to Sheringham. It is so popular now, it was almost standing room only - a bit frustrating when you have paid £49 for a family rover ticket. Anyway, we found seats and sat down to read 'The War Illustrated', and the 40's gazette - another paper I happened to have on me! (See extra photos)

We walked into Sheringham town, where the whole town had thrown itself into the spirit of it. Old vehicles, bunting, and shops adorned with the wartime theme.

After a cup of tea, we hopped on another train to Weybourne, where we checked out the Anderson shelter, and wartime allotment. The last train took us back to Holt where we finished our exhausting day, checking out more vintage wartime jeeps, lorries and bikes. Then the old bus back to the car.

I have added a few extra photos (although we took about 100!).

The sun shone, as it always does! An absolutely fantastic day, we love it and will be back next year.
