SPOKE-SHAVINGS & OLD SKIN

Spent today carving the replacement neck for this old Italian jazz guitar. A sandwich of two lengths of flamed maple with a 6 mm bar od rosewood in between. They call this a "Skunk" on account of the dark stripe down its back!

I love flamed maple for its complex reflections & the funky, treacherous way it doesn't want to be cut the way you want. You have to watch & listen with complete concentration.

Amongst the shavings you can see two of my favourite tools - an old spoke shave & a little thumb plane which took a swathe of skin off my right social finger while thicknessing this neck.

Old skin like nostalgia, is not what it used to be!
