267/365: Nicola Benedetti at Leeds Town Hall

Back-blip

Very busy day at work, then a quick dash home to get ready and head off to Leeds Town Hall to see Nicola Benedetti (far left of photo). I'm a bit of a fan of hers but have never seen her live before. She was lovely as always. And brilliant.

It was part of her Italy and The Four Seasons Tour but the concert was very much a mixed bag of old and new. The first half was Le Quattro Stagione which was excellent. Then she brought on some special guests (some local children) who performed with her... what a thrill for them that must have been. They were all brilliant too.

After the interval Nicola performed a duet with the cellist (and her partner) Leonard Elschenbroich (far right of photo). It was a world premier by Mark-Anthony Turnage, a love duet written specially for Nicola and Leonard. I don't think it was to everyone's tastes but I really enjoyed it.

The concert ended with a rousing performance of Tchaikovsky's Souvenir de Florence which was wonderful.

A few drinks afterwards and then home for food and bed. A full, but very enjoyable, day.
