Scientific literature

So many scientists, so many papers to read! After a field, conference & vacation season I feel so behind on reading that it is hard to imagine I will ever catch up. Today I spent an entire day going through the literature and flagging papers that I will want to read sooner rather than later. I got to a count of 78...when-oh-when? For the fellow-scientists among you: how do you do it? First: how do you keep track? Do you follow certain journals, or use google alerts? And second...when do you read them? Is your strategy 'a paper a day' or 'a full week of reading once in a while'? And do you read the whole thing or just scan it? 

Well, at least I got to catch some last rays of sunshine while making a start. 72 to go...
