Desert Squirrel

Early morning on Mt Fyffe

We camped overnight on the ridge of Mt Fyffe, above Kaikoura, not far from the hut.  The view is magnificent.  To the west is the seaward Kaikoura Range, and to the east we looked down on the township of Kaikoura and the ocean.  It was a calm night, so we heard Hutton's shearwaters flying over us, making their way to their nesting sites high on the slopes of Mt Manakau. A couple of extras from the walk along the ridge towards Mt Fyffe, and a friendly robin back at the picnic area at the beginning of the track.

Seeing the full moon rise out of the sea was a bonus last night.  I'll post that shortly, along with a shot of our tent..
