A Sad Story

This collared dove sat for quite a while on the back of the lounger in the garden preening him/her self this morning.

We've had a pair of these doves regularly visiting the garden, strutting around or up on the feeder sharing a drink of water. They were always together.

The other day we came home and found one of them lying on the patio. It had flown into the window and broken its neck.  It was so sad to see this lovely bird lying there.

Since then this single dove has been visiting but always alone, no doubt confused about their missing mate.
