Afternoon Tea

Today I had a visit from a friend from the U.S.  After 10 days in London he was glad to experience a bit of the beautiful English countryside.  We started out going to one of my favourite country pubs, the Dew Drop Inn, in Burchetts Green near Maidenhead, where we enjoyed the best of pub food - Fish and Chips (for him) and Bangers and Mash (for me).

Of course Dolly was with us and we also took time for a short walk through the woods and along the lanes. She was glad that the pub allows dogs inside!  This was the same pub where she enjoyed her Birthday treat a couple of weeks ago! (See Sep 13 blip).

After a little drive in the country, we ended up at the Lock at Sonning-on-Thames, where we had a cream tea - scones, clotted cream and jam, along with a pot of tea to share. I snuck in an extra piece of cake - Ginger Drizzle - which we shared!

(There is much debate on the correct way to put the cream and jam on scones. Jam first or cream first?  As you can see, I did it both ways this time!)

My friend enjoyed seeing how the lock worked and seeing the variety of boats, especially the Narrowboats. We talked about the possibility of a holiday on a Narrowboat - if we could round up a couple more friends!

Finally, we walked a little bit more as the sun began to go down. It was a gloriously sunny and warm Indian Summers day. Not a bad start to October!  I hope it continues!
