Rock Houses

We visited the Rock Houses at Kinver Edge in Staffordshire today. This is the inside of one of the houses. The houses were occupied until about 1900, and in its heyday in 1861 there were 11 families, (44 people) living there. The houses were dug out of the soft sandstone and were a warren of passages and stairs and white-washed rooms. It was lovely and cosy in this room today, especially with the fire lit.
From the houses we then walked up to the top of Kinver Edge, for a panoramic view of 5 counties. From the top can be seen the Black Country, Cotswold Hills, Malvern Hills, Clee Hills, and Long Mynd.
We also went onto a cave in "Nanny's Rock (named after an inhabitant who was a bit of a recluse) which was rather like a miniature Uluru (Ayers Rock) with its layers of golden sandstone.
I was just beginning to think we were lost when we spotted see our car in the distance, standing alone in the car park. We then ate our lunch - it was about 4:30 pm by this time.
