The setting sun

The fading sun across the lake late this afternoon played tricks with the light, and reflections on the water, but allowed me to focus today’s Blip directly into the sun.
The result was startling and is further evidence of why I find the Testwood Lake, on the outskirts of Totton, and just a few miles from Southampton, so fascinating.
For me it still provides an ideal venue for daily walking exercise, but because the reservoir, now a wildlife reserve, close to the River Test, is home to all manner of water birds, it is always a challenge to spot and recognise species.
The 150-acre reserve is managed by Hampshire Wildlife Trust and three lakes are actually old gravel pits which were dug out in the 1980s and 90s before being flooded and given over to nature.
As reservoirs, the lakes built by Southern Water have a crucial role in providing drinking water for parts of Southampton, the Totton area and the Isle of Wight.
But today it was the reflections on the water which attracted my attention; even  a solitary grey heron strutting on the bank of the adjoining water kept disappearing from view.

No doubt looking for its tea.
