A Pink Carnation

Sir, the year growing ancient, —
Not yet on summer's death nor on the birth
Of trembling winter, — the fairest flowers o' the season
Are our carnations and streak'd gillyvors,
Which some call nature's bastards: of that kind
Our rustic garden's barren; and I care not
To get slips of them.

From 'The Winter's Tale', Act IV, Scene 4 by William Shakespeare (1564 - 1616)

Like the character Perdita in 'The Winter's Tale', Mum has no carnations growing in her garden.  This one was in a bunch of flowers which my sister gave her a few days ago, though I set this shot up with some of the garden in the background bathed in the light of the evening sun.

As the carnation is tinged with shocking pink, I'm going to give another plug to Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is a global campaign.  Here's a link to the UK charity Breast Cancer Care.
