Abingdon's Got Talent

It all happens in Abingdon you know. Here's another of my occasional blips from the ancient market place. Last week it was morris dancers, and two weeks before that it was the Jubilee bun throwing!

Today it was our own version of Britain's Got Talent. This lovely lady, Pam Aird, won the 18+ section. She had to hold back tears when she won, saying that her trophy was for her sister who would normally have been with her but was not...

I know it's technically terrible but I like the way there are several little scenes going on at once. If you have time, have a look in large at the people peering out through the cafe windows.

The 17 and under winner was jaunty 12 year old Callum who did a fantastic rendition of Proud Mary. There was also a very graceful young ballet dancer. The range of skills was of similar breadth to that on the real TV show, but the judging panel were diplomatically nice to all. The audience clapped and cheered throughout, even to some rather-out-of-tune numbers and a bizarre mind reading act!

Edit (27/06/12). there's now a YouTube video available with snippets from the two winners.
