The Rising Tide

An installation on the Thames at Vauxhall called The Rising Tide by Jason deCaires Taylor who is famous for underwater sculptures, there are four horses here that are visible during low tide and completely submersed as the tide comes in.  We came back at high tide to see them disappear (extra) with just the tops of the riders' heads visible.  Very cool.  I chose this particular picture because it shows someone getting stuck in the Thames mud!  This kept happening, it was hilarious.  Despite warnings from guides up on the slipway to beware the mud and the orange cones set out in the muddiest areas.  And this mud is deep and clings to you.  We saw a lady, in her expensive shoes and matching handbag, get stuck in the exact same spot, both feet and halfway up her shins!  Her friends had to help pull her out, she strode down to a tidal puddle, shoes still on and walked into the water to rinse the mud off.  Very entertaining.

In the afternoon we visited the Wallace Collection which was fantastic, we also had a very good lunch in their restaurant.  To Covent Garden next to see a beautiful cloud of balloons, an installation by artist and photographer Charles Pétillion.

Pre-dinner drinkies at Somerset House and the end of the day found us at the South Bank where we had dinner at one of the many restaurants there.

A very full and enjoyable day, took too many pix!  Will upload other stuff to Flickr...
