Gành Đá Dĩa rock formation

We met back up with My and Mai to head north to Gành Đá Dĩa, a rock formation famous locally. The name means "The Cliff of Stone Plates" and it's an example of 'columnar jointed volcanic rocks' (according to Wikipedia). I was told a few times that it's only one of two examples of this in the world but the internet disagrees. Either way, it's very beautiful (see the extra photo) and I don't think I've seen this type of formation before.

It's fairly popular with Vietnamese tourists visiting the area but the whole region is totally devoid of foreigners, so it was very quiet and we got the place to ourselves for a while. On the way there we stopped for lunch at a seafood restaurant and shared a big plate of crabs and clams.

We stayed for sunset and then drove back to town to have a coffee at a cute little cafe in a residential area before having 'chả dông' for dinner, a type of fried spring roll with the meat of some kind of lizard. The girls had been eager for us to try it and it was very tasty. Once back at our hotel, Rachael and I joined the staff for some drinks out the front. They kept feeding us cheap whiskey but we escaped before the drinking ruined the next day!
