Vibrant purpose

It may be getting chilly come eventide this time of the year, and the daylight hours are certainly shorter, but there’s something exceptional about autumn — vivid and natural colour that you’ll find in the most unsuspecting places.
Perhaps the fully fledged views of the colours of autumn are not quite with us yet, but the first signs of what we can expect in the next few weeks are evident.
Vibrant colour in woods and hedgerows help instil a sense of purpose in autumn — after all with dreary October days so frequently littered with heavy rains, strong winds and overcast skies, you might question why we have to suffer autumn at all.
And then, in town or country you’ll find flashes of stunning colour. Dramatic backdrops to everyday surroundings that can give you an inner glow.
My few steps through a nearby residential area this afternoon was rewarded by unexpectedly finding a corner of almost flamboyant colour.
The downside over the next few weeks will be sweeping up leaves in the front garden, caused by a near constant and unstoppable falling from three oak trees.

But with corners like this to brighten these dull days, I might almost accept the unwelcome carpet falling on the drive.
