Canaan Down.......

..........Reflections

The walking track through ancient beech trees and unusual rock formations made for a magical visit to Harwoods Hole and the Gorge Creek viewpoint at Canaan Down – an area reached by driving 11km on a narrow dusty road after turning off the main road near the summit of the Takaka Hill. (Nelson, NZ)

Harwoods Hole  is the deepest vertical shaft in New Zealand (176 metres). A water-enlarged (but now dry) sinkhole, it drops to an underground river that emerges below and flows into Gorge Creek and then into the Takaka River.

This area was used in the Lord of the Rings film to become Chetwood Forest (where Aragorn leads the Hobbits soon after they leave Bree).

NB - I think this looks best against the dark background of large view.

Thank you  for the comments, stars and hearts for yesterday’s blip showing part of our local estuary.
Tomorrow, Friday, our daughter and two grandchildren arrive from Wellington for the last few days of the school holiday - which will mean I will have even less time to visit blip and your journals. I will catch up as soon as possible.
