Oak bark

Beautiful afternoon so I went for a walk on Bookham Common. The Common is thickly wooded with oaks, some of them very old. It belongs now to The National Trust and is an Area of Special Scientific Interest. There weren't many people along the path that I took, and at one stage I thought i was being followed as there were noises behind me. Luckily it turned out to be acorns dropping off the trees! There is a very rich crop of acorns this year. I wonder whether at one time the peasants of Bookham grazed their pigs on The Common - pannage it is called.
