Take one Crocus

Crocus goulimyi.  From Greece, notably the Peloponnese, where it is often seen in great quantity in abandoned olive groves.  Named after a Greek amateur botanist, Constantine Goulimy.

Easy to grow in a sunny well drained place it has a very distinctive flower shape with it's rounded petals which open very wide in sunshine.  Here in the late afternoon, the flower has just begun to close.
