Saffron

Following yesterdays edible diversion here's the culinary crocus connection, a saffron crocus. Not THE Saffron Crocus but Crocus cartwrightianus which the horticultural form is believed to be derived from. I showed a very dark form a few days ago, this one is more typical.

Growing in the open, photographed about 30 minutes before a monumental rainstorm (goes outside to check) which it appears to have survived :-)
