Sunday Afternoon By The River

Such a glorious day, I decided to walk along by the upper river Cam which is wider here and connects with the Great Ouse at King's Lynn, then into the North Sea. Snaking out across the flat fenlands towards Ely, the river Cam was once a busy transport route since before Roman times. Today it carries water from over a thousand drainage ditches, working to keep the Fens dry. The river bank paths, part of a network of rights of way, lead to peaceful countryside, rich in wildlife and several species of willow trees. Today there were many people out enjoying the warm weather, fishermen, joggers, dog walkers, rowers or like me just ambling along then sitting on one of the numerous benches to read the Sunday News. A delightful day.
